Taxis don’t have a taximeter, the cost is $1.50.

Public transportation demonstrates the Latin culture, decorated with different elements, religious as well as by the local soccer team, Deportivo Cuenca.

Don’t be afraid if the driver turns up the volume and tunes into some salsa, meringue, reguetton or pasillo…music is part of the Latin culture.

Cuenca is a quiet city but we recommend not showing off valuable items.

In case you go out to dinner in the evening, you may wear semiformal clothing, and during the day wear comfortable clothing to visit the churches or walk around town.

When you to travel to Cajas, you must dress in warm clothing, this region is cold. In case you get dizzy or nauseous due to the altitude, we recommend you sit down and breathe, drink a cup of hot coffee and do not begin to walk until you feel better.

TRANSPORTATION:

To go to Cuenca you may arrive in plane from Quito and Guayaquil through the following local airlines: TAME, ICARO, and AEROGAL. They have different morning, noon and evening schedules.

For traveling within the region you may rent a car or go to the bus station, located at Avenida España and Sebastian de Benalcazar. You will be able to find a number of bus companies which travel to the different regions of the Austro.

It is best to dress in comfortable clothing that you can use for walking, going to the Virgin of the Cloud Church or visiting archaeological ruins.

For moving around, you can take a bus such as: Azogues, Panamericana, Flora Imbabura and Sucre.

TRANSPORTATION:

To get to the province of Cañar you may only do it by land. You may take a bus from Cuenca and arrive in approximately one hour.

If you would like to travel using public transportation, you may go to the Bus Terminal and find the bus companies that go to Loja such as: Panamericana, Flota Imbabura, and Sucre among others.

When you arrive to Loja, sit still. Do not worry…this is a safe region. To get around downtown you may do so by walking or you may take a taxi which costs $1.00.

In order to visit the valleys, wear comfortable clothing and low heeled shoes, insect repellent and sun screen is a must.

Although the city is safe, when you visit the markets it is suggested that you don’t take valuable objects with you.

You may get to Loja by land or by air.

If you wish to fly directly to Loja, you may do so through Quito by Tame Airlines.
